giants in the Bible

"there were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown" [Genesis 6: 4]

-the easiest thing to do is to ignore this as myth, but could it in fact have been true?

-there are many other civilizations that held similar accounts of history that included giants:

1. in Greek mythology, the titans were a family of giant gods who were the offspring of Uranus (heaven) and Gaea (earth)... when they tried to rebel against God they were imprisoned in Tartarus (a section of the underworld)

  • "for if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment [II Peter 2: 4]

2. in Mesopotamian mythology, Gilgamesh is credited with having been a demigod of superhuman strength who built a great city wall to defend his people from external threats

3. in Sumerian legend, the annunaki were demigod creatures ("anu" means sky or heaven, "ki" means earth, and "annunaki" means something like “sent from heaven to earth”)

4. in Babylonian mythology, these "gods" each had different specialties, such as wisdom or magic or alchemy, etc.

  • in the book of Enoch (a Jewish text), the story goes that 200 Watchers (fallen angels) came down from their high place (a plateau on a mountain peak) and began to teach the humans the forbidden arts of agriculture, meteorology, smith craft, as well as astronomy/astrology, sorcery, herbology amongst other things

- there are also other cultures that have "giants" in their "myths"... but could these so-called myths simply be the result of the truth being carried on orally from generation to generation, in different languages and cultures and parts of the world from one common origin? (the Tower of Babel before everyone was dispersed)

-the offspring of angels and humans being giant could explain the mystery of such great ancient monuments as the great pyramids, stonehenge, and other larger than life creations that could not have been executed by humans in any previous state of technology

-consider these interesting facts as the possibility that the Old Testament might not simply be tall tales to teach morals but could in fact be 100% accurate information given to us directly from God
